The Amazon Fire TV Stick is one of the most popular devices for IPTV: it is inexpensive, plugs into any TV with an HDMI port, and runs most player apps well. Setup takes a few minutes. Here is the whole process.

Before you start

• A Fire TV Stick connected to your TV and Wi-Fi. A 4K model is needed for 4K streams.
• Your subscription details: usually a username, a password and a server address (or an M3U link).
• A steady connection: around 10 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps for 4K.

Step 1: Look for the player app in the Appstore

From the home screen, open Find and search for the IPTV player you want to use. If it appears in the Amazon Appstore, select Get and skip to Step 4.

Step 2: Allow apps from outside the Appstore

Some players are not listed in the Appstore and have to be installed from the developer’s own website. To allow that:

1. Search for the free Downloader app and install it.
2. Go to Settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options.
3. Open Install unknown apps and switch it on for Downloader.

If you cannot see Developer Options, go to Settings > My Fire TV > About, highlight the device name and press the select button seven times. The menu will then appear.

Step 3: Download and install the player

Open Downloader, enter the official download address given by the app’s developer, and wait for the file to download. Choose Install, then Done, and delete the installer file when prompted to free up space.

Only download from the developer’s official site. Installers from unknown sources can contain unwanted software.

Step 4: Sign in

1. Open the player and choose to add a new playlist or user.
2. Select the Xtream Codes login option (or M3U if that is what you were given).
3. Type your username, password and server address exactly as provided. They are case-sensitive.
4. Save, then wait while channels and the programme guide load. The first load can take a minute.

Troubleshooting

• Login fails: re-check for extra spaces or swapped characters, and confirm the subscription is active.
• Channels load slowly: restart the Fire Stick and your router, and move the router closer if the Wi-Fi signal is weak.
• App closes unexpectedly: clear its cache under Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications.
• Storage is full: remove apps you no longer use. Fire Sticks have limited space.
